Korail is one of the largest urban poor settlements in the DNCC, and has existed now for many decades (1990s). It situates itself on the periphery of Mohakhali and Banani, with the Banani Lake on its right, the TNT power board’s housing on the north, and Mohakhali on the south. It has a population of roughly 450,000+ people. Korail is in itself a micro city, and has a bustling bazaar, shops, mosques, schools. Many INGOs and NGOs also provide programs and services. Majority of the Korail community work in the nearby middle- and upper-class areas as maids, factory workers, rickshaw pullers, construction workers and more.
